A Flange is an attachement fitting that is secured to the end of a pipe for installation purposes.  Typically two pipe ends are mated together by securing their flanges together using fasteners to create a permanent seal but has the ability to be dissassembled.  A gasket is commonly installed in between the two flange surfaces to provide a seal to prevent and process fluids or gases from escaping.  Flanges come in many sizes and materials to appropriately match the pipe size and class.  Flange sizes are specified by a number of industry accepted standards:  ASA/ANSI (North American), PN/DIN (European), BS10 (British/Australian), and JIS/KIS (Japanese/Korean).
